I've observed that many Chinese-language online communities are engaged in heated debates about whether or not it's necessary to deploy local AI. The discussions are often quite contentious.
Those in favor argue that it's necessary for local data security, while those against claim that there isn't much valuable data stored locally. Those advocating for on-premise deployment state that purchasing a GPU and related equipment would cost at least $2,000, and even then, they wouldn't be able to run powerful models. Achieving 80% of the performance of online models might require an investment of $10,000. With that amount of money, you could cover the subscription costs for ten years.
Here's an example I have: I'm using Codex to create videos, and it doesn't allow me to use my own pre-written text as the initial voiceover. Instead, I use AI to generate a voiceover first, and then I record my own voice over that AI-generated audio.
I simply instructed Codex to use the local model, and that solved the problem.
The online model also does not allow data to leave the device.
